Gel Printing

A couple of weeks ago I ordered something so incredible! The gel printing plate by Gelli Arts. It is a sillicone plate which enables you to make the most beautiful monoprints. Tough? Not at all. You can’t go wrong. Fun? Big fun! Addictive? Highly. Just because it’s so much fun. Expensive? The plate by Gelli Arts isn’t exactly cheap, but it lasts a lifetime or something like that. You can make your own plate with gelatine. That’s very cheap, but you have to save it in the fridge and it expires quickly. The best used paints are the cheap ones from your crafting store. Small bottles, so you can build up a nice range also. And of course you can mis the paint. You don’t even have to do that in preparation. At youtube you can find lots of videos about gel printing. You can use anything to achieve different effects. Templates and masks (buy them or make them yourself), draw a pattern with a cotton swab, use the webbed bag your oranges come in, stamp with a toilet paper tube, cut simple figures out of paper and put them as a mask on the plate… the possibilities are endless. Thereby it takes very little effort to clean the plate. Some people prefer not to clean it at all as the leftover paint comes off when you start a new print next time. Right. Enough words. The photos give a good image. And thise are my very first prints I have ever done with this technique. It’s as easy as that.
