Spring In Pink (and a touch of purple)

Hello! Like I mentioned in my previous poste, I’ve got some photos to share with you. They were taken during the last couple of weeks and have something in comment. They are spring bloomings and they are quite pink, except for one that is purple, but well, purple is close to pink right? I’m still playing around with my new vintage 50mm lens and I like it a lot!

This is the purple photo. I call it “tulip in the city” as you can see the large buildings in the background.

 

Let’s move on to the pink. I adore the vivid colours of the rhododendron flowers. I think they look kind of exotic.

Yes, I know. The sunlight was too bright, but I couldn’t really change that, could I? And coming back later that day, wasn’t an option. I still like how the photos turned out.

Don’t you love the pink flowers? As much as I adore the rhododendron’s flowers, I am absolutely in love with the sakura, better known as cherry blossoms.

I tried to capture their beauty as best as I could.

I just can’t get enough of them.

I saved the best for last. This is a photo I am very proud of. It hardly needed any post-processing. I know taking good pictures isn’t about having the best gear, but I do notice the difference with this prime lens. It’s vintage, but it sure is good glass. The conditions for taking this photo were also really good. Even though it was the same (too) bright sunlight as in the rhododendron pictures. I took my time to get it all nice in frame, adjusted my settings et voila! I hope you like it as much as I do. I call this one “sakura lush”.

Allright. That’s it for today. I don’t have any pink spring delightness left anymore. I will go exploring what other kinds of spring colours are waiting to get captured. Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you back soon!

A Foggy Day

 

Today there was fog all over. I took my camera and went outside to take pictures. It was my first attempt to photograph fog and I was quite unsecure about how and what to shoot. I went to a park, but had a lot of trouble to find a good spot. I ended up with just a couple of photos and only one was okay-ish. I didn’t realize it would be so cold. I’m in a wheelchair, as some of you might know, so I can’t exersize to get any warmer. I should have put on an extra pair of trousers and more socks. So in stead of finding a new location, which would be an extra 5 km, I headed back home.  After studying the photo on my computer, I realised I should have set my aperture smaller to create a deeper depth of field (larger F number). So that’s a note to myself for next time. And for goodness sake, extra clothing! Tell me what you think of this photo.

Vandaag was een zeer mistige dag. Ik heb mijn camera opgepakt en ben naar buiten gegaan om wat foto’s te maken. Het was mijn poging om mist te fotograferen en ik was wat onzeker over hoe en wat ik zou schieten. Ik ben naar een park gegaan, maar had moeite een goede plek te vinden. Ik ben geëindigd met slechts een paar foto’s, waarvan er eigenlijk maar eentje een beetje redelijk was. Ik had me niet gerealiseerd dat het zo koud zou zijn. Ik zit in een rolstoel, zoals sommige van jullie wellicht weten, dus ik kan geen oefeningen doen om het wat warmer te krijgen. Ik had een extra broek en meerdere sokken aan moeten doen. Dus in plaats van op zoek te gaan naar een nieuwe locatie, wat nog eens 5 km extra zou beteken, ben ik naar huis gegaan. Na de foto op mijn computer te hebben bekeken, kwam ik tot de conclusie dat ik de opening van mijn lens kleiner had moeten maken, voor een grotere scherpte-diepte (groter F getal). Dus, een aantekening voor mezelf voor volgende keer. En in vredesnaam, extra kleding! Vertel me wat jij van deze foto vindt.

Dark Clouds

Deze wolken brachten regen en onweer. Tegelijk was de zon aan het onder gaan, wat een mooi beeld gaf.

These clouds brought rain and thunder. At the same time the sun was going down, which gave a pretty sight.

Japanese Garden II

Zoals gezegd in de vorige blogpost, ben ik vrijdagmiddag nog een keer naar de Japanse Tuin geweest. Dit keer ben ik alleen gegaan. Dat gaf iets meer rust om de nieuw geleerde technieken opnieuw uit te proberen. Met succes. Goed de tijd genomen om mooie composities te vinden. Het weer was erg goed. Hetgeen de fotograaf uit de vorige blogpost blijkbaar ook vond, want die trof ik samen met zijn dochter bij het paviljoen.

As mentioned in the previous blogpost, I went to the Japanese Garden again last Friday. This time I went by myself. It gave me a little more comfort to try the newly learned techniques again. Succesfully. Took my time to find nice compositions. The weather was very nice. Something the photographer from the previous blogpot must have thought aswell, as I found him and his daughter at the pavillion.

   

Japanese Garden

Afgelopen maandag ben ik naar de Japanse Tuin op landgoed Clingendael geweest. Mijn gezelschap was een fotograaf. Spannend! Ik ging iets leren. Ik heb mijn camera weer iets beter leren kennen. Nooit geweten wat nou de functie van dat knopje AE-L was. Nu weet ik het: lichtmeting. Zonder die functie zou de Buddha nauwelijks zichtbaar geweest zijn (ik heb het getest). Toegegeven, ik ben niet kapot van de foto’s die ik gemaakt heb. Had nogal plankenkoorts haha. Nu stond er een pro naast me. En het oefenen met de nieuwe informatie, maakte dat ik iets minder gefocust was op de andere elementen. Letterlijk minder gefocust, want het grootste deel van de foto’s had een verkeerde scherpstelling. Misschien ga ik vanmiddag nog een nieuwe poging wagen in m’n eentje. De tuin gaat maandag alweer dicht voor publiek.

Last Monday I went to the Japanese Garden at the estate Clingendael. My company was a photographer. Exiting! I was about to learn something new. I got to know my camera a little better. Never new what the purpose of that button AE-Lwas. Now I know: light measuring. Without that button the Buddha would have been hardly visible (I tested it). Must admit, I am not that thrilled about the photos I made. I got cold feet haha. Now a pro was standing next to me. And working with the new information, made me less focussed on the other elements. Litteraly less focussed, as most of my photos were focussed on the wrong spots. Maybe I will take another try today by myself. Monday the gardel will close for public.

After The Rain

Even een kiekje tussen het bewerken door. Deze schat verdient wat aandacht. Het had even daarvoor behoorlijk geregend in Diergaarde Blijdorp. Zouden natte blaadjes extra lekker smaken?

Just a picture between editing. This darling deserves some special attention. Just before there was quite a rain shower in Blijdorp Zoo (Rotterdam). Would wet leaflets taste even better?

Sunset in December

Gisteren. Een perfecte zonsondergang. Iets mindere locatie. Ik kwam net thuis, heb snel camera en statief gepakt en ben de galerij opgegaan. Die wolken, wauw!

Yesterday. A perfect sunset. Less perfect location. I came home, quickly grabbed my camera and tripod and went onto the gallery. Those clouds, wow!

Geïnspireerd door de zonsondergang van gisteren, nam ik vandaag camera en statief alvast mee, toen ik naar mijn afspraak ging. Na de afspraak snel naar het strand, waar ik net op tijd was om de zonsondergang vast te leggen. Helaas, niet zo’n mooie als gisteren. Dit keer geëxperimenteerd met lange sluitertijden. Mooi effect op de zee. Hier wil ik vaker mee experimenteren.

Inspired by yesterday’s sunset, today I took my camera and tripod with me, when I went to my appointment. After the appointment I hurried to the beach, where I was just in time to capture the sunset. Unfortunately not as beautiful as yesterday. This time I experimented with long exposures. Nice effect on the sea. I’d like to experiment more with this.
